Vigil is run by Vigil Caregiving LLC. Caregiving means trusting Vigil with some of the most personal details there are — about you and about the people you love. We take that seriously. Here’s exactly what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
Our promise
We collect only what Vigil needs to work for you. We never sell your information, and we never use your loved one’s care details for advertising. Your information is used to run the app and share it with the people you choose — nothing more.
What we collect
Account details. Your name, email, and password so you can sign in securely.
Care information you add. The care profiles, medications, appointments, incidents, documents, photos, notes, and messages you choose to store in Vigil.
Care Circle details. The names, emails, and roles of the family members, aides, or loved ones you invite.
Basic technical information. Standard details needed to keep the app secure and working, like the type of device or browser you use.
How we use it
To provide the app — to show your dashboard, send reminders you’ve asked for, and let your Care Circle see what you’ve shared with them. We also use it to keep Vigil secure, fix problems, and make the app better.
Who can see your information
Only you and the people you invite into a loved one’s Care Circle — and only at the level of access you give them. A loved one on the simple “My Day” view sees only what’s meant for them. You’re always in control, and you can change or remove someone’s access whenever you like.
We use trusted service providers to store data securely and to send emails on our behalf. They may only handle your information to help run Vigil, and never for their own purposes.
Some features, like Explain This and reading medication lists from photos, use an AI service to process what you send. We only share what's needed for that feature, and we don't let it be used for advertising.
Text messages
If you turn on text reminders, we collect your mobile number and record when you agreed to get texts from Vigil. We use your number only to send the reminders you asked for.
We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We also do not rent or share your mobile number or your consent to receive texts with anyone else for their marketing or promotional purposes. Our texting provider handles your number only to deliver Vigil’s messages.
Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to any text to stop getting them, or HELP for help. You can also turn texts off any time in Settings → Notifications.
Keeping your information safe
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including secure connections and protected storage. No online service can promise perfect security, but we treat your information with the care it deserves and work continually to keep it safe.
Your choices
You can view, update, or delete the information in your account at any time. If you delete a care profile, its associated data is removed.
Deleting your account. You can delete your account yourself, any time, from Settings → Plan & Billing → Delete my account. This permanently removes your account and the care profiles you own, along with their information. If you can’t sign in, ask us on our Support page and we’ll take care of it.
You can also decide which email reminders and phone notifications you’d like to receive, and change your mind whenever you want in Settings → Notifications or your phone’s settings.
Children’s information
Some caregivers use Vigil to care for a child. When you add information about a child in your care, you’re doing so as their parent, guardian, or authorized caregiver. Vigil accounts themselves are meant for adults.
Changes to this policy
If we update how we handle your information, we’ll revise this page and, for meaningful changes, do our best to let you know.
